AJ PENDANT BLACK CEILING LIGHT BY ARNE JACOBSEN 1957 LOUIS POULSEN

Professional seller: Danish Vintage Design

565 EUR / 690 USD

Description

AJ PENDANT, also known as AJ ROYAL - designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1957, produced by Louis Poulsen - iconic Danish modern design!
A true timeless design piece, made in spun aluminum and steel with black and white wet painted lacquer. Shaped like a semicircle with five circular peepholes towards and a opal acrylic diffuser plate at the bottom. Inside it features three bulb mounts to ensure both upward and downward directed illumination. The opal diffuser plate softens the ambiance and providing a glare free light.

The AJ Pendant was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1957, as a part of his total design of the SAS Royal Hotel (1956-1961) in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Royal Hotel project also included several design icons like the EGG and SWAN chairs as well as the AJ table and floor lamps.

Introduced in three different colors; light grey, dark brown and black (as most of the lights designed for the SAS Royal Hotel) and produced in two sizes; a smaller with a diameter of 14.6" (37 cm) and a larger with a diameter of 19.5" (49,5 cm). The smaller one featured an opal acrylic diffuser plate, making it perfect for high hanging, whereas the larger version was designed to hung at a low position and came without a diffuser plate.
Louis Poulsen was quick to put the AJ Pendant into production, keeping it in production to this day (in updated versions), as the popularity never went away!
