MULTI-LITE, PENDANT LIGHTING BY LOUIS WEISDORF, LYFA, 1974

Professional seller: Danish Vintage Design

2.420 EUR / 2.930 USD

Description

MULTI-LITE - brass ceiling light by Louis Weisdorf in 1972 and produced by LYFA from 1974 - timeless Danish design - extremely attractive brass masterpiece!

A large brass ring with two thin brass lacquered quarter-spherical shaped shades anchored at each side of the ring, and encircling a thin brass lacquered cylindrical inner core. To this extremely appealing form, comes the Weisdorf twist - the two shades can be individually rotated around the inner core, and thus altering the design and emittance completely - a true masterpiece with a complex structure and genius lighting qualities.
The contours of the surroundings are captured in the shiny brass surface, and it creates an absolutely amazing light when lit - the light is guided out of the cylindrical inner core and past the two shades, making the white inner coating warm and soft, and the brass outer shine even more. By altering the shades position, the light can be directed upwards, downwards or exude an asymmetrical art light.

The MULTI-LITE was designed by Louis Weisdorf in 1972, but first put into production at LYFA by 1974 and offered in two color combinations; white with chrome ring or brass with white inner coating. The MULTI-LITE and its ability to easy change the mood of the design made it a popular light - in fact so popular that Danish GUBI, in closed collaboration with Louis Weisdorf, relaunched the MULTI-LITE in ca. 2015-16 and added two new color choices to the design, a black with brass ring and a blue with brass ring. Even the original idea of Louis Weisdorf, that did not make it at LYFA, has come to live through GUBI - a Multi-lite Floor lamp.
