SEMI BRASS PENDANT BY CLAUS BONDERUP AND TORSTEN THORUP 1968 FOG & MOR

Professional seller: Danish Vintage Design

565 EUR / 690 USD

Description

The SEMI pendant light was designed in 1968 as a product of the creative partnership between two architecture students, Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup, and originally put into production by Fog & Mørup.

Reacting against the 'cosy era' that was dominating Denmark at the time, Bonderup and Thorup wanted to create a lamp that incorporated sharp, clean lines and a geometric shape. Their design was submitted for a competition at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts School of Architecture and won first prize.
SEMI is a unique pendant lamp, based on two quarter-circles put together, back-to-back. With its distinctive arch-shaped, lacquered metal shade, lightness of form and unique, timeless design, the elegant SEMI lamp achieved great success in the 1980's and became, at that time, the best-selling Danish design, gaining worldwide recognition and iconic status.

Originally produced in two sizes - SEMI MINI and SEMI MAXI and in several different colors: matte white, matte brown, bright black, bright red and chromium-plated. At a later state other sizes were produced, both smaller than the SEMI MINI and slightly larger - to fill in the gap up to the SEMI MAXI.
The piece for sale here is a SEMI MINI in shiny polished brass, measuring 18.5" / 47 cm in diameter. It is in excellent vintage condition, with minimal signs of usage and age - and it looks absolutely amazing!
