Grete Jalk

Grete Jalk

The work of Grete Juel Jalks (1920-2006) has had an important impact on the international reputation of Danish female designers. Grete Jalk graduated from the Danish School of Design for women in 1946 and has through her career worked with everything from advanced experiments to simple industrial manufactured furniture. The simple industrial manufactured furniture was because of its uncomplicated production methods and economic-focused material use internationally competitive. The iconic GJ chair is an example of Grete Jalks more experimental designs, but the advanced origami-like shape made it difficult to produce and only a few hundred pieces were made in the early 60s. Subsequently, the GJ chair became highly demanded and was re-launched in 2008.
