Gunnar Nylund (1904-1997) is known for his revolutionary stoneware with beautiful matt glazes and for his work for Saxbo and the Swedish brand Rörstrand, one of the oldest ceramic manufacturers in Europe. Gunnar Nylund graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and worked at Bing & Grondahl, Rörstrand and as the founder of Saxbo. Saxbo was a ceramic workshop founded by Gunnar Nylund and ceramist Johanne Nathalie Krebs in 1929. Together, they set new standards for ceramic series production as they presented high artistic quality. Some of Gunnar Nylund's best-known pieces are the Hedgehog vase and his slender jugs.
