Poul Kjærholm

Poul Kjærholm

Poul Kjærholm graduated as a carpenter in 1949, and as an architect from the School of Arts and Crafts in 1952. Poul Kjærholm (1929-1980) is known for his timeless simplicity and a minimalist expression. Poul Kjærholm favored working with a combination of steel, glass and leather inspired by modernism's industrial aesthetics. This distinguished him from other furniture designers as wood was the preferred material of the time. Inspired by Gerrit Rietveld, the Eames couple and Mies van der Rohe, Poul Kjærholm designed furniture classics, which united Danish craft traditions with a modern international design language.
