Rud Thygesen

Rud Thygesen

Rud Thygesen is a Danish furniture designer born in 1932. In his youth, Rud Thygesen worked for several years at various furniture firms, which sold furniture by modern Danish furniture designers such as Hans J. Wegner. This inspired him to start drawing furniture himself. His first furniture design was a daybed, which was shown at the exhibition of handicraft at Charlottenborg. By a request from the principal, Rud Thygesen entered the School of Arts and Crafts. Despite the missing education as a carpenter, he graduated in 1966. Furniture by Rud Thygensen can often be recognized by being made of mahogany and having a back of French cane. In collaboration with his partner, the furniture designer Johnny Sørensen, Ryd Thygesen also designed a series of laminated molded furniture with a modern expression which has received a number of international awards.
