Jo Hammerborg

Jo Hammerborg

Johannes (Jo) Hammerborg graduated as a silversmith in 1944 and subsequently studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Jo Hammerborg (1920-1989) is one of the most productive Danish lamp designers - he created over 180 lamps, several of which have been honored with international design prices. Jo Hammerborg's technical insight and understanding of form, function and aesthetics benefited especially the lamp factory Fog & Mørup. In 1957 Jo Hammerborg was employed as head designer at Fog & Mørup, which proved to be the start of the company's most successful period in its 80-year history. A significant part of the success is attributable to the combination of Jo Hammerborg's commercial and artistic approach to Fog and Mørup. Jo Hammerborg created a whole new modernist style while introducing stringent new standards for the smallest components of the lamps to commercials and showrooms.
